Conference All-Star running back after averaging more than seven yards a carry and totalling more than There was no better running back in the Canadian Football League in 1960 than Ron Stewart, who combined brilliant football with full-time attendance at law school in Ottawa. Stewart was named the league’s Most Outstanding Canadian Player and Eastern 1,000 yards on the ground. Ottawa defeated Edmonton 16-6 to win the Grey Cup, but the diminutive runner’s greatest individual achievement came against Montreal in October, when he rushed for 281 yards, a single-game record that continues today. Stewart scored touchdowns on runs of 37, 51, 51 and 59 yards and caught another 85 yards worth of passes despite sitting out much of the second half in Ottawa’s 51-21 victory.
