1969 - Feature Story

Bev Boys may not have had the classic sleek diver’s body, but her tenacity and pugnacity made up for that. In a long career in which she went to three Olympic Games, she won 34 national diving titles. As an 18-year-old in 1969, the native of Toronto, Ontario, won international competitions in Winnipeg (her home training base) and Leningrad, and also brought home Gold from the United States National Diving Championship as well titles in the 1m, 3m and 10m at the Canadian Championships.

1970 - Feature Story

Bev Boys was used to competing at all three diving heights, namely 1m, 3m and 10m. She had won all three titles at the 1969 Canadian Championships and defended them successfully in 1970, one reason today the Bev Boys Award can be won only by divers who compete in all three classes. For the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, only two events were contested, at 3m and 10m, which meant Boys could win only two Gold medals. In both competitions, she led a 1-2 Canadian finish.
